When do I get 5 minutes to myself?

So I’m a mom to 2 boys; Tristan is 3,5 years old and Grayson is 8 weeks tomorrow. Grayson needs my constant attention and Tristan still needs quite a bit so when do I get 5 minutes to myself? As I type this Grayson is (finally) asleep on my chest after being awake since 7am, and Tristan is sitting next to me watching a movie. How do I find balance as a mom?

When it was just Tristan it was much easier to get 5 minutes to myself, although even going to the loo was no longer a private affair. But when he slept (we dropped his last nap in December) I had 2 – 3 hours to do whatever I needed. When he was at school I could also get plenty done, but now with 2 young children, one of which is a newborn, getting 5 minutes to myself is somewhat of a challenge.

As I said, Grayson will be 8 weeks tomorrow (where does the time go?) and today has been rough in regards to his sleep. He was generally waking around 6:30/7am and would then nap on and off on my shoulder while I got Tristan ready for school, had my breakfast etc. He’d feed around 10am and then sleep for 2 – 3 hours after which he’d feed again and nap again. Afternoon naps were also generally taken on the go; in the carrier or just on my chest as I sent a few emails.

So my days are full with attending to kids. Don’t get me wrong, I love them and motherhood and I chose this, but by the time it’s bedtime for Tristan at 7:30pm followed by Grayson I’m desperate for some me-time. Time to just do what I want without having a child attached to me or asking me for something or requiring my boobs. But I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place because I need to go to sleep so that I am not exhausted the next day, but that is literally the only me-time I get. So how do I find a balance?

I’ve divided my evenings up into ‘time slots’. Once Grayson is in bed I then make a cup of tea and drink it while it’s hot while watching a TV show with Shaun. That’s usually 1 hour. Then I have admin time during which I do any research I need to do and that’s limited to 30 minutes. After that it’s bedtime. This obviously changes all the time because Grayson isn’t in a formal schedule yet but least it gives me a sense of getting things done.

As the phrase goes, this too shall pass and I will get a little more me-time with each passing month.

How do you find time for yourself as a mom of more than 1 child? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.

Much love xxx
